The writer of the book of Lamentations had everything that could be depressing. The city of Jerusalem had been taken by an enemy and it seemed that there was no future for the people of God. He also knew that the only real source of happiness was found in God Himself.
Thus, he wrote in Lamentations 3:24 "The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him."
My happiness this day, will not be found in any life circumstance. I can plan, push and plead for my own desires in order to feel happy today, but outside of the LORD, any happiness I find will only be temporary at best.
LORD, you must be what I want most of all. You are the only satisfying One!
